Background

This project is part of the Dorset Integrated Care System (ICS), known as ‘Our Dorset’. Our Dorset is a partnership of health and social care organisations working together to deliver health and care services across Dorset.

We are looking for 6 – 8 people to take part in a group meeting that will explore ideas and themes for a new patient survey asking people about their experiences of health and social care services in Dorset. This feedback will inform changes in service design and delivery to improve care quality.

About the PPI Advisory Group

We are recruiting members of the public, patients and unpaid carers of those who access health and care services in Dorset to form a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Advisory Group.

This group will meet in person in Poole, on Monday 10 June 2019 for 2 – 4 hours to introduce the project in more detail, discuss progress to date, and engage in discussions and activities to explore your views on key considerations when accessing quality of care and developing a patient feedback questionnaire.

Participants will be offered payment for their time (£40) and reimbursement of travel costs up to £20.

Who can take part?

We welcome interest from people who have accessed health or social care services in Dorset, people who live in Dorset and unpaid carers of those who have accessed health or social care services in Dorset. Participants must be at least 16 years of age.

Who is running this work?

NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are working in collaboration with Picker, an independent healthcare research charity, to conduct this work. Picker will manage and host the meeting.

What will I need to do?

You will need to be available at the designated date and time of the PPI Advisory Group meeting. This is estimated to take place around mid-June and will last from 2 – 3 hours. Venue details and an agenda will be distributed in May. You will be asked to discuss the following topics with 5 – 7 other PPI Advisory Group members and 2 researchers from Picker:

  • What topics/themes are most important when measuring the quality of health and social care in Dorset
  • The results of previous exploratory work (Picker will present the results to you and ask for feedback)
  • What format should be used to ask people about the quality of the health or care services they have accessed (e.g. paper questionnaire, telephone interview, text message, etc.)
  • When people should be asked to complete a feedback questionnaire about the quality of health or care services they have used (e.g. following a visit with a provider or within a certain time frame)

Picker will also outline the next steps for developing the patient insight questionnaire and will ask for your feedback on these steps.

You may be sent some reading materials prior to the meeting date but this shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes of your time.

What will discussions be used for?

We will use discussions with the PPI Advisory Group and the results of previous exploratory work to inform the development of a new patient questionnaire for people who use health and social care services in Dorset. Data collected from the new survey will be used to inform changes in service design and improve care quality.
