The CCG has a major role in ensuring the timely and effective delivery of health services to Looked-after Children and Care leavers it is required to do so under section 10 of the Children Act 2004.
A Designated Doctor and Nurse are employed as strategic leads to advise and assist DCCG, other commissioners of health services and local authorities within their area accommodating children and young people in fulfilling their responsibilities to improve the health of looked-after children

Notification for LAC being placed in Dorset Process
Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group has dedicated medical service commissioned through Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust who complete all Initial health assessments (IHA’s). The Looked after Children’s Health Teams commissioned through Dorset Healthcare (Community Trust) are collocated within the three Local Authorities within the county of Dorset. They are able to support the health needs of children and young people accommodated by either the Borough of Poole, Bournemouth County Council or Dorset County Council or placed in Dorset by other local authorities.
The medical Service are able to complete Initial Health Assessments for children placed in Dorset by other local Authorities under a Service Level Agreement, using the national tariff recommended in ‘Payment By Results’ Document.

Dorset Local Transformation Plan for Children and Young People’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health
The Dorset Local Transformation Plan for Children and Young People’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health was originally produced in October 2015 and has now been refreshed for October 2017. The plan has incorporated recommendations from engagement with children and young people and has been developed by the following partners:
- Borough of Poole Council
- Bournemouth Borough Council
- Dorset County Council
- Dorset HealthCare University NHS Foundation Trust
- NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group
- Public Health Dorset
The refreshed October 2017 plan has also incorporated feedback from the Bournemouth and Poole Children’s Trust Boards and the Dorset Strategic Alliance.
NHS England requires all Clinical Commissioning Groups to publish their refreshed Local Transformation Plans online by October 31 2017. Dorset’s plan is available here as a draft version and is subject to approval by the following Boards at the following times:

- Dorset Strategic Alliance- 11 December 2017
- Bournemouth Children’s Trust Board – 19 December 2017
- Dorset Health and Wellbeing Board – 28 March 2018
- Bournemouth and Poole Health and Wellbeing Board – To be confirmed
The Local Transformation Plan will be updated and re-published following feedback from these boards.
