New services to benefit patients at Highcliffe Medical Centre

Registered patients are set to benefit from two new free services being offered at Highcliffe Medical Centre in Christchurch.

The practice now offers patients over the age of 18 self-management health coaching appointments, as well as appointments for social prescribing.

Rebecca Loveys, Assistant Practice Manager at Highcliffe, said: “We are really excited to be able to offer these new services to our patients. We think they’ll really make a difference to people and will allow them access to support and help them to manage their own health.

“For patients with an ongoing health condition, and for carers of people with at least one ongoing health condition, we now offer 45-minute self-management health coaching appointments, which are available throughout the day on Mondays and are with a trained professional.

“The idea of the sessions is to help patients gain more knowledge, confidence and skills in managing their health. Our Health Coaches have lots of experience in a range of subjects, including managing pain and fatigue, preparing for appointments, accessing information to understand conditions and treatments, coming to terms with having a health condition and building a network of support.

“Appointments are pre-bookable, and up to six sessions are available for each patient.

“We are also offering 20-minute social prescribing appointments for our patients. These innovative non-medical appointments are with a trained Community Connector volunteer, who can help signpost patients to local charities, organisations and clubs that might be of benefit to them and their general health and wellbeing. A range of support is also available including for specific medical conditions, carers, bereavement, cancer, loneliness, healthy living, legal advice, mental health and community activities.

“Appointments are pre-bookable from 2.00-4.00pm and are also available on a walk-in basis between 4.00-5.00 pm on Tuesdays.”
