Just 10 Steps!
After two jam-packed days in Bristol and Taunton I am really excited to have completed NHS England’s train-the-trainer course to enable me to deliver “10 steps to even better public engagement”.
It’s really important to me to help people understand why meaningful engagement is so important and to be able to support staff and public representatives in developing their public engagement knowledge and skills.
I’m really excited by this clear and comprehensive one-day training course. It will complement the 4-day co-design training that we have commissioned the Point of Care Foundation to deliver to staff across Dorset.
The training day introduces an approach to patient and public engagement which is based on best practice. It explores how and why we engage, works through the 10 steps that people should follow when undertaking public engagement and signposts to lots of helpful information and resources.
I undertook the training with a super group of colleagues from across the South West and the idea is that we will be able to support each other to deliver the training to both staff and public representatives across Bath, Wiltshire, West Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly, Devon and of course our beautiful county of Dorset.
I am going to be delivering my first “10 steps to even better public engagement” course with my colleague Karen Loftus from Dorset HealthCare. We will be training 12 of our colleagues in Wimborne in April 2019.
I’ll let you know how it all goes and I’ll also ask them to share with you what they think too.
