Dorset based Jurassic Coast Primary Care Network narrowly missed out on top honours at the recent national General Practice Awards, having been shortlisted in the Primary Care Network Newcomer category.

The General Practice Awards took place in London at the end of November and recognise excellence in primary care across a number of categories including Community Nurse of the Year, Healthcare Leader of the Year and GP Team of the Year.

Primary Care Network Newcomer winner for 2019 was London based NeoHealth Primary Care Network.

Dr Andrew Finucane said “Since the Jurassic Coast Primary Care Network was formed we have all been working really hard to develop strong relationships between the member practices in order to be able to provide the best care for our patient population and develop new services. An example of this is the Enhanced Frailty services and complex care services which helps to manage patients with complex conditions in the community.

We are naturally disappointed not to win the category, however with over 1,000 primary care networks across the country, being shortlisted as one of the top is an honour in itself.”

Primary Care Networks are groups of GP practices working closely together with their local partners (e.g. other primary and community care staff and health and care organisations) to improve services for local people.

Working as part of a network rather than a stand-alone business means the 80 GP practices in Dorset can share expertise and resources, making them better placed to manage the challenges Primary Care faces including ever increasing demand and recruitment issues. With additional support available it is anticipated that services across the county will benefit from more extended hours and specialist clinics.

Jurassic Coast Primary Care Network is made up of six local practices and provides services for around 38,000 patients.
