Jim & Gill

Have you met Jim or Gill yet? They are our newly appointed GP Patient Participation Group (PPG) support officers that we told you about in out last bulletin. They’ve been busy getting out and about meeting with groups across the county to discuss how they might work with them. They’ve been talking about supporting individual practices’ events and recruitment drives.

Jim is working with practices and their PPGs in Bournemouth, Christchurch, West Dorset and Weymouth and Portland. If you’d like to meet with him contact him at james.gammans@dorsetccg.nhs.uk

Gill will be doing the same for Wimborne, Ferndown, Verwood, Purbeck and Poole. If you’d like to meet with her contact her at gill.foott@dorsetccg.nhs.uk

Has your PPG got a good news story?

We’re always interested in hearing from patient groups about any successful projects they’ve been involved in. Has your group influenced and changed something that is done at your practice? Perhaps you’ve held an event which went well? Tell us about it and we’ll use it to inspire others!

Share your experience of NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)/NHS Funded care applications

Have you or someone you care for recently made an application for funded care? This may have been referred to as ‘continuing healthcare’, ‘funded nursing care’, ‘S117’, ‘funded out of hospital’ or ‘fast track’. Would you be happy to share your experiences with us? We are looking for people who have had direct experience of these processes to help us improve. We will be asking volunteers to share their experiences via interviews so that we can use this information to improve our services. We will also be looking for people to review our communications to ensure these are clear and easily understood (this maybe in the form of letters or leaflets).”

Contact us at communications@dorsetccg.nhs.uk before if you would like to find out more. Please include your name and a telephone contact in your email.

Closing date 20 March 2019.

Cardiology Patient Representative Opportunity

Have you had recent experience of our cardiology service following conditions such as heart failure, chest pain or arrhythmia? We are looking for patient representatives to work with us to help improve the services we provide. The role would involve attending meetings of the Cardiology Steering Group which take place every 6 – 8 weeks in either Dorchester or Poole, sharing your relevant experience and suggesting ways in which we might improve the service. There would usually be some pre-meeting reading. Out of pocket expenses would be paid in line with NHS England guidelines.

If you would like to find out more or express and interest in this role, please contact us at communications@dorsetccg.nhs.uk. Please include your full name and a telephone contact number in your email. We will pass your details to our project leaders who will get in touch.

Closing date 20 March 2019.

Current Campaigns – Help Us To Help You, NHS 111, Flu and Norovirus Advice

Help Us Help You – your local pharmacy can help with a range of conditions. Diarrhoea, earache, a painful cough, teething and rashes are just some of the conditions that can be treated by your pharmacist who can help you avoid unnecessary trips to your GP or A&E department, and save time.

NHS 111 – Need help fast, but don’t know what to do? Call 111 or go online: 111.nhs.uk. The NHS 111 online service is available across most of England.

Flu and Norovirus advice – getting plenty of rest, keeping yourself warm, drinking lots of water and taking paracetamol or ibuprofen to manage your symptoms are the best way to see yourself on the road to recovery if you catch the flu. Similarly if you catch norovirus, the best thing you can do is to stay home, get lots of rest, drink plenty of fluids and let them run their course. Avoid going to healthcare settings as both are highly contagious.
