Two of Dorset’s GP practices have been nominated for the People’s Choice Award: Surgery of the Year in this year’s General Practice Awards.

Littledown Surgery in Bournemouth and Newland Medical Practice in Sherborne are both in the running against 79 other practices across the country.

The General Practice Awards are an annual celebration of the hard work, innovation, and dedication taking place in primary care across the UK. Showcasing the very best projects, teams, and leaders and sharing in achievements, the awards are a fantastic chance to step back and reflect on the past year.

New this year, the People’s Choice Surgery of the Year award offers the general public the chance to give their thanks and show appreciation for their local healthcare team.

Emma Prince, Practice Manager at Littledown Surgery, said: “It’s such an honour to have made the longlist for Surgery of the Year. To get through to the next stage would mean the world to everyone at the surgery, particularly since it’s a public vote.

“We want everyone that visits our practice to have a great experience, and to have that dedication to our patients recognised in this way would be fantastic.”

Leah Hughes, Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Newland Medical Practice, said: “We’re so pleased to have been nominated for this national award. It is a privilege, all the staff are thrilled, and shows that our excellent team care about our patients and their health needs. It is now down to our patients, their friends and families and all the people in the surrounding area to help us get through to the next stage- so please vote!”

Voting is now open until 10 August, with the shortlist being announced on the 3 September. To cast your vote and show support for your local practice, visit the General Practice Awards website.
