The Care Home Quality Improvement Team

The Care Home Quality Improvement Team is committed to enhancing the quality of care delivered in Nursing and Residential care homes across Dorset, by supporting staff and managers to achieve the optimum levels of care delivery.  This is achieved through monitoring and providing support and signposting resources.  This role is carried out in partnership with the NHS Dorset CCG Continuing Healthcare Team (CHC), Local Authority Quality and Service Improvement teams and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Our work is underpinned by the service specification and standards set out within the contract, the Care Act 2014 and The Mental Capacity Act 2005, supported by National Guidance including: National Institute of Health & Care Excellence (NICE), The Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC); Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), Skills for Care and others.

What does this mean in practice?

We measure the  quality of the care delivered by utilising an in-house tool ABACUSS (Adult Baseline Assessment for Care Underpinning the Service Specification) - which then identifies areas of good practise and where improvements can be made – working in partnership with the care home staff & providers we then provide support as necessary to achieve improvement goals.

We aim to promote innovation, sharing of information and best practice, highlight local developments and networking opportunities for independent care sector staff.   To assist staff in meeting the standards a number of tools, templates and useful links are included on this website.
